Ricoh and Equitrac Release Java-Based Version Embedded Print and Copy Control (PCC) Solution

London - January 26, 2010 -- Equitrac Corporation and Ricoh Europe Plc today announced the release of the fourth generation of Print and Copy Control™ (PCC) software, embedded for Ricoh's multifunction products (MFPs) and fully integrated with Equitrac's award winning Equitrac Office® and Equitrac Express® print management solutions.

Print and Copy Control (PCC) improves information security, user mobility and accountability, while reducing waste and minimizing costs. PCC, which controls device access and tracks print, copy, scan and fax activity, is now built on Ricoh's Java-based Embedded Software Architecture. The previous version, PCC 3.1, will still be available to customers throughout the distribution channel.

Ideal for the enterprise, general office and education markets, this solution builds on the strength of its predecessors. PCC 4 delivers full integration with Equitrac Office and Equitrac Express and further enhances the joint Ricoh-Equitrac print management solution with productive new enhancements to help organisations manage authentication and control, while at the same time tracking usage and allocating costs in a secure environment. These features include:

  • New user interface and improved access to MFPs - PCC 4 is making MFP access easier. In addition to a new, modern, user-friendly interface, it is possible to configure speed access function buttons on the main PCC log-in page. The PCC function selected will appear immediately after the user has successfully authenticated at the MFP, such as Follow-You Printing®, Scan-To-Me®, and Single Sign On authentication.

  • Card self-registration - PCC 4 allows a user to associate a card with their new user credentials. The next time the user swipes the card, the system automatically associates the card with the user.

  • Access to documents anywhere - The new Follow-You Printing capabilities now finds documents anywhere, on any print server (or any workstation, if print servers aren't being used) automatically, with no searching necessary.

  • Quick, easy scanning with Scan-to-Me - Users often need to scan documents to their own email address. PCC 4 offers this as a built-in capability with Scan-to-Me. Administrators decide whether users can send files only to their own addresses or include other email addresses, as well as control other settings. Scan-to-Me is quick and easy, which increases end-user satisfaction and reduces help desk calls.

  • Available in 16 languages - Multi-language support for the PCC MFP interface.

  • GlobalScan integration - PCC 4 provides a seamless Single Sign On integration with Ricoh's GlobalScan™ NX.

  • Extensive card reader support - Authenticate with a broad range of available access control card readers, such as Magstripe, HID®, HID iCLASS®, Mifare®, Legic®, Indala®, Hitag® and EM Marin standards.

"Bringing enhanced software security solutions to our customers is a key priority and PCC 4 makes security even more accessible, serving as the new benchmark in embedded solutions," said Noel O'Dwyer, vice president of marketing and strategic alliances, Equitrac Corporation. "Partnering with Ricoh to provide solutions like PCC 4 through its distribution channel has allowed us to continue to bring innovative and high-quality solutions and products into the marketplace."

PCC 4 is available as a free upgrade from PCC 3 to customers. Through this next generation, PCC 4 expands upon the Ricoh-Equitrac joint venture, which strengthens the value of the partnership. Equitrac, the world leader in print tracking, print management and cost recovery solutions, has partnered with Ricoh since 1999.

""With the release of Print and Copy Control version 4 with Equitrac, we're continuing our commitment to provide our customers with solutions based on their needs," said Monique van Weelden, senior product manager, Ricoh Europe Plc. "This is just the latest result in our ten year partnership with Equitrac, which has allowed us to identify our customers' specific pain points and work together to bring those solutions as quickly and efficiently as possible."
